S.S. ELECTIVE: PSYCHOLOGYACTIVITY
4: Body 2-Third Scene: Who am I really?
- FILMING
LOCATION: We’re here at the UW-Madison Department of Psychology (Brogden
Hall, 1202 W. Johnson St., Madison, WI 53706-1611), home to the largest major
in the College of Letters & Science.
Some students will go to graduate school and become the next generation
of psychological scientists and educators. Other psychology majors will choose
careers in other areas, such as business, medicine, law, education, and
counseling.
- Review
the semester-long project goal: You will use common topics from the Social
Studies Elective class Psychology to answer questions about the concept of
INDIVIDUALISM, and whether or not it really exists. Your final project can be a reflective
research essay, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF ORGANIZED COMMUNICATION (song, movie,
play, simulated social media responses, etc.) – just as long as it answers all
areas outlined in the Activity 8-9 writing guide.
- Today’s
focus is on: investigating WHO YOU REALLY ARE – IN YOUR OPINION. By the end of today’s activity, you should
have a clearer picture of your personality type, and why you prefer the things
you prefer. Personality tests are not an
“exact” science. Instead, they work as
guides toward increased self-awareness.
- When you
view the text, be sure to look for: read the introduction to better
understand the Myer-Briggs Personality Type Indicator – still the most widely
used personality test. Once finished, complete
this version of the test used by UW-Madison (I’ve taken it a couple of times). It is essential that you avoid overthinking,
and be honest in your responses. Rank
each character trait according to how well that trait describes you. Give it a
4 if it is MOST like you, a 3 if it is MODERATELY like you, a 2 if it is
MODERATELY NOT like you, and a 1 if it is NOT like you. After you have ranked all 80 traits (20 per
box), add up the total score in each box.
Once you’re finished, use pages 4-7 to discover your dominant
personality type – NO ADVANCE PEAKING.
It’ll bias your responses. Be
honest.
- The goal
is for you to be able to: better understand yourself and to recognize why
you like the things you like – and why some things really get on your nerves. And in case you’re curious, I’ve taken this
personality test 4 different times, and it regularly rates me as OWL
dominant. Those who know me were not
surprised.
- Remember, the tutor or PEOPLE staff person
working with you is a student just like you during social studies
enrichment. Work together to complete
the activity and place all work in the submission folder before leaving home
base.
