During this session, we will explore the roots of privacy in the United States and the rise of state-sponsored privacy legislation. We will also explore what the third-party problem is and information sharing in a modern context. Then we will focus on what all of this means to us as technology leaders, educators and learners, and active citizens. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of the issues surrounding privacy, why they should care, and perhaps a few things you can do to protect your own privacy and the privacy of others.
Attendees will:
- Develop a basic understanding of history of privacy in the United States and how to be a better privacy advocate
- Understand the importance of reading the terms and conditions and privacy policies and know what to look for when they do
- Leave the session motivated to engage in protecting the privacy of themselves and others along with a few tools to help them along the way
