The evolution of higher education through the applied use of technology was, is, and will continue to be a guiding force for leaders. From digitization to digitalization, and into digital transformation, the strategic use of data and technology is not value-add, it is truly foundational to successful leadership in higher education information and technology. This session will explore the history of digital transformation from some of its earliest moments in mathematical theory and hardware development to current and future-focused conceptual models like Educause’s 2023 Trend Watch lens of “Workforce, Culture and Technology.” Attendees will gain insights into the differences in digital transformation leadership over the past, present and future. This session will dig into three common threads throughout the history of digital transformation leadership: the balcony view, vision casting, and business value. You’ll leave knowing how to weave the three common threads into your own leadership journey.
