This lecture discusses the suturing of services for library patrons with disabilities to create a seamless model for library patrons. Attendees will learn to move from a model where multiple departments within the libraries work on disparate efforts that are handled by members of that department to a model where a liaison or liaisons work to ensure that efforts are handled with less effort from the patron. Starting with an examination of models of disability studies, moving to auditing practices, and finishing with the creation of a steering committee where efforts are shared and discussed, this talk then looks to deconstruct ableist histories and present practices in libraries, and moves toward more inclusive practices and advocacy to ensure that all feel welcome in the libraries and using its collections and services.
